clearly people calling Sansa x Tyrion a creepy old man ship never really looked into their actual age difference in the books….because I don’t think Tyrion qualifies as extremely older than her (within that time period, their age difference was normal) nor creepy. He never used her for his own sexual gain or want to gain the crown or anything else.
So I’m not sure why we are included in a week????? Considering we get crapped on for breathing as a fandom, but I’ve never seen it for being “creepy and old”
I feel I need to raise my voice in this (I don’t know why, call it duty). First, let me just say that I 100% agree with your views - the first thing I thought was “ehm Tyrion is like 28???”, and of course, I agree, their relationship is far away from creepy (both in books and show, imo).
The thing is though, that I understand the goal of this week, but I do think that there are some issues with it. The goal is to stop hate, or like to use a Tyrion quote “armor yourself” with what people say about your ship, about you, so “it can never be used against you”. It’s a nice idea, for like Sansa x Petyr, because that ship gets all that attacking. The goal is to stop ship hate, to stop ship wars. And I can only admire the idea behind it, because I do think ship wars are unnecessary and stupid. Telling people not to ship a ship is stupid.
My problem with it is that I went and checked out that post with Sansa and Tyrion. I’ve seen that almost 100 notes it got. I was like okay - I’m gonna check out the tags (for curiosity) and let me tell you, I’ve seen more hate under that one post (against my ship!) than I’ve seen in the past year. The thing is, no one (well there are some, but they are a minority) really says shipping Sansa and Tyrion is creepy. Some people say, the age difference is a lot,”but maybe when she’s older it’s gonna be fine”. Tyrion never was really creepy to her. The thing is, there was a time when Sansa and Tyrion got a lot of hate on tumblr. This wasn’t (even though you said “we get crapped on for breathing as a fandom”- I disagree, we got a lot more hate a few years back). Now it is again that time. This is my problem.
…Oh I certainly don’t mind you voicing this, Veronika (and OP! though I do not know you)! It’s all fair–and you aren’t the only person/ship/shippers/etc. to voice discomfort at the existence of the week–and more specifically the shocking name of the week–so I thought I’d say something that’s been a part of our experience in the less-than-twenty-four hours that we’ve modded it:
You stupid girl, the queen thought, angry even now. Jaime does not even know you are alive. Back then her brother lived only for swords and dogs and horses… and for her, his twin.
whoviannerdie reblogged your post Parallels between Tyrion Lannister &a… and added:
Yeaah, about showing empathy, in the books, during her wedding with Tyrion, she didn’t kneel to help Tyrion throw the Lannister banner over her shoulder. Instead, she stood straight up and Joffrey made fun of Tyrion and asked one of his man to help him. It’s in the books, not in the series though..
Sorry about the form, whoviannerdie, but I don’t want to rant under the gifset, since it’s quite long on it’s own, but I need to reply to your comment. (I don’t know why I do this all the time though)
The gifset simply implies a parallel in Tyrion and Sansa’s storyline and personality - because there’s a lot. Empathy and compassion is one of them. Sansa does show empathy on many occasions in the books, and you are gonna be surprised, she shows empathy towards Tyrion as well during the wedding.. I’m going to prove it to you.
1. Sansa doesn’t kneel, because she knows that her feelings and her will is absolutely ignored, she is forced to be there, she is forced to marry. Choosing not to kneel is not a lack of empathy, it’s a sign of unwillingness, a sign of her protest. Sansa not kneeling is her only way to protest, to resist the situation she is forced to. Also, it is Tyrion, who in this case lacks of empathy, and not Sansa - he tugs at her skirt, while he could simply ask her. (As they made him on the show, see the contrast?)
As he moved behind her, Sansa felt a sharp tug on her skirt. He wants me to kneel, she realized, blushing. She was mortified. It was not supposed to be this way. She had dreamed of her wedding a thousand times, and always she had pictured how her betrothed would stand behind her tall and strong, sweep the cloak of his protection over her shoulders, and tenderly kiss her cheek as he leaned forward to fasten the clasp.
She felt another tug at her skirt, more insistent.I won’t. Why should I spare his feelings, when no one cares about mine?
2. After this comes a part of the wedding ceremony, that lots of people tend to forget. And that is Sansa’s empathy showing right there, on her forced wedding, when she realizes how bad this situation for Tyrion as well (he is humiliated after all). Sansa does realize that and does kneel - a bit too late to prevent Tyrion’s humiliation, but just in time, to prove how kind and compassionate she is.
When Sansa turned, the little man was gazing up at her, his mouth tight, his face as red as her cloak. Suddenly she was ashamed of her stubbornness. She smoothed her skirts and knelt in front of him, so their heads were on the same level. “With this kiss I pledge my love, and take you for my lord and husband.”
That is a very short passage of course, it’s easy to forget. But it shows Sansa’s true nature. I always liked this passage. I think it’s beautiful. (As is the previous one. Sansa resisting Lannisters gives me life)
Tbh I don’t think she had to kneel, not at all. I’m glad she didn’t. The marriage was completely against her will, and no one has the right to force her to kneel. And you know what? They didn’t. She didn’t kneel when she was supposed to kneel in order to Tyrion could cloak her. She knelt by choice, to show empathy - something that is barely showed to her in her time in King’s Landing.
Again, I’m sorry about the form, but I must react to every single thing about concerning Sansa (and Sansa and Tyrion), it’s a bad habit of mine.
You know what we should do? We should all go on “strike”. I’m not even joking. Since all the emails and messages don’t seem to be working, we need to find another way to get the message across. We, the users who make this website what it is, are not happy and that needs to be known.
So I say we pick a day, let’s say Monday, November 3rd, (exactly two days away) and make sure NOT to go on Tumblr all day (midnight to midnight). Of course, this may not work, but if a large number of people were to stop using Tumblr for a day, it would show on the website’s traffic. Maybe that would get their attention at last
We may even look at this as a chance to finally leave the house so it’s a win-win situation!
So please reblog this post to make sure this reaches as many people as possible.
